Missouri St. 79, Wis.-Milwaukee 60
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Blake Ahearn had a nearly perfect night Wednesday, scoring 26 points to lead Missouri State to a 79-60 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Ahearn, the nation’s leading free-throw shooter the last three years, was 6-of-8 from the field, including 4-for-4 from beyond the 3-point line. He was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Missouri State (7-1) trailed UWM (2-8) 25-17 with 8:42 left in the first half, but finished the half with a 22-7 run to lead 39-32 at the break.
A 3-pointer by UWM’s Charlie Swiggett narrowed Missouri State’s lead to 43-40 with 14:18 left in the game. But the Bears responded with an 8-0 run to go up 51-40 with 10:50, and UWM never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
The Panthers outrebounded Missouri State 31-28, but the Bears outscored UMW in the paint 40-20. UWM also committed 18 turnovers, which Missouri State converted to 27 points.
Deven Mitchell scored 18 for Missouri State and Nathan Bilyeu had 10.
Avery Smith led the Panthers with 21 points and Swiggett added 16.
