Morgan St. 86, Coppin St. 82
BALTIMORE (AP)—Boubacar Coly scored the eventual game-winner with 41.8 seconds remaining as Morgan State (1-6) held off a late Coppin State (2-7) rally to win, 86-82, Wednesday night in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
Ronald Timus scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Jamar Smith had 15 points and eight rebounds and Coly had 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead Morgan, which had five players that scored in double figures. Jerrel Green also had a solid game as he finished with a game-high 14 assists for the Bears.
Also key for the Bears was Reggie Holmes, who scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half. Morgan needed all of those as it led 72-61 before Ruben Britts’ three-pointer capped a 21-10 run which gave the Eagles a short-lived 82-81 advantage.
However, Morgan responded by scoring seven straight points to end the game and give Morgan coach Todd Bozeman his first coaching victory with the Bears. Morgan finished the game by shooting 52.7 percent from the field while out rebounding Coppin, 46-29.
Tywain McKee scored 26 points, while Antwan Harrison scored 16 and Robert Pressy had 13 to lead Coppin.
