DELAND, Fla. (AP)—Toney Douglas scored 16 points to lead Florida State to an 82-63 victory over Stetson Tuesday.
The Seminoles (6-2), fresh off a victory over defending national champion Florida, used their depth to wear down the Hatters. Florida State’s reserves outscored Stetson’s subs 25-8, led by Ralph Mims’ 10 points.
Stetson’s Garfield Blair and Gabe McMillen led the Hatters (3-6) with 15 points apiece.
Florida State scoring leader Al Thornton finished with 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting, but received plenty of help. Uche Echefu added 12 points for the Seminoles, while Jason Rich finished with 10.
The Seminoles led 65-40 midway through the second half before Stetson rallied to within 71-57 with 2:46 remaining.
Florida State led 50-28 at halftime, using a 17-4 run to erase at 10-7 deficit. Mims sparked a 90-second surge, sandwiching a four-point play and a 3-pointer around a put-back dunk and two free throws from Thornton.
The Seminoles closed the half by scoring the final nine points for their largest lead.
