Northwestern St. 64, Southern U. 57
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP)—Trey Gilder’s 13 points and 12 from both Luke Rogers and Colby Bargeman helped Northwestern State overcome its poorest shooting of the season as the Demons held off visiting Southern University 64-57 Tuesday night.
Northwestern State (5-4) snapped back from losses to No. 17 Marquette and Princeton on the road last weekend.
The Demons sank only 36 percent of their shots, making just 4-of-25 on 3-pointers.
Northwestern State never trailed in the game’s final 25 minutes, but couldn’t put away the winless (0-8) Jaguars until a 14-3 outburst in the second half carried them to a 56-41 advantage with 6:20 remaining.
Southern outscored Northwestern State 7-2 in the final 1:10 but got no closer than the final margin.
The Jaguars got a game-best 27 points and nine rebounds from Deforrest Riley-Smith, while Douglas Scott added 11.
