South Dakota St. 67, Denver 56
DENVER (AP)—Matt Cadwell scored 18 points and 11 rebounds as South Dakota State defeated cold-shooting Denver 67-56 Sunday.
Kai Williams added 11 points and nine rebounds and Michael Loney had 10 points for South Dakota State (2-7), which won consecutive games after losing six straight. The Jackrabbits had 19 turnovers.
Antonio Porch led Denver (1-7) with 13 points and Tyler Bullock had 11 points. The Pioneers shot 31 percent for the game and were 9-for-34 in the second half.
Denver was 2-for-21 shooting in the first 14 minutes of the second half and South Dakota State capitalized extending its halftime lead to 47-31 after a 3-pointer by Garrett Callahan with 14:41 left. Two free throws by Porch and Bullock’s layup for the Pioneers reduced the lead to 62-54 with 1:01 remaining, but Callahan hit four free throws in the last minute to seal the win.
South Dakota State had a 12-0 run and nine points from Cadwell to lead 32-27 at the break. Williams and Mackenzie Casey had 3-pointers in the run that turned a 17-11 deficit into a 23-17 lead. Denver closed the gap to five points with Porch’s basket and a 5-0 run at the end of the half.
