UNC Asheville 75, Furman 67
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP)—Vincent James scored a game-high 22 points including the go-ahead basket with 5:35 left to lead UNC Asheville to a 75-67 win over Furman on Saturday.
Bryan Smithson added 13 points, 11 in the second half, for the Bulldogs (3-4), who trailed 62-59 after two free throws by Furman’s Alex Opacic with 6:24 left in the game.
James tied the game at 62 with a three-point play at 5:57 before hitting the go-ahead layup.
Brett Warner followed with a rebound basket and Smithson added a layup for a 68-62 lead with 2:46 to go.
After a Paladin basket by Gerad Punch, the Bulldogs hit five of six free throws to push their advantage to 73-64.
James hit 10 of 15 shots from the field and committed only one turnover in 29 minutes. He scored eight points during a 12-5 run that tied the game at 52 on his inside shot midway through the second half.
Eric Webb scored 18 to lead the Paladins (4-3) but failed to score in the final 14:47. He scored nine of Furman’s first 11 points of the second half on three consecutive 3-point shots.
The Paladins used a 15-5 run to post their largest lead at 26-15 on two free throws by Moussa Diagne at the 7:45 mark in the first half. They led 47-40 before the Bulldogs’ 12-5 run that forced the tie at 52.
