Centenary 84, Nicholls St. 71
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP)—Alexander Starr and Tyrone Hamilton each scored 17 in Centenary’s 84-71 come-from-behind win over Nicholls State on Saturday.
Despite shooting just 34.3 percent in the first half, Centenary (4-4) stayed close by forcing 11 turnovers and winning the rebounding battle. Of the Gents’ 19 rebounds, 10 came off the offensive glass.
The Colonels (0-9) frustrated Centenary, shooting 65 percent from the field in the opening half. Centenary trailed by as many as 10 points after Nicholls’ Stefan Blaszczynski drained his fourth 3-pointer of the period with 4:40 remaining.
Trailing 37-27, Centenary finished the half on a 10-1 run backed by four points each from Hamilton and Nick Stallings, to go into the break down just one at 38-37.
Nicholls cooled off in the second half and Centenary heated up, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor and hitting 12-of-13 free throw attempts down the stretch to pull away.
Blaszczynski led all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Ryan Bathie added 17 and Aaron Scott had 10 for the Colonels.
Lance Hill finished with 16 points for the Gents and Larry Logan had 14.
