William & Mary 59, Jacksonville St. 56
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP)—Laimis Kisielius and Adam Payton combined for 38 points and held off Jacksonville State to lead William & Mary to a 59-56 win in the school’s Tip-Off Classic on Friday night.
The Tribe (2-3) went into halftime up 27-20 and led by as many as 10 points in the second period. The Gamecocks (1-4) came to within one on a 3-pointer by Will Ginn, making it 57-56.
Kisielius hit two free throws with 19 seconds to play to keep the Tribe’s lead. With four seconds left, Tracy Thomas missed a 3-pointer needed to tie the game for Jacksonville State.
Kisielius had 20 for William & Mary and Payton added 18.
Dorien Brown led the Gamecocks with 15 points and Erik Adams added 14.
William & Mary will play Cornell on Saturday in the finals; Jacksonville State will play VMI in the consolation game.
