Winthrop 76, Presbyterian 51
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP)—Winthrop’s Torrell Martin scored 19 points and had eight rebounds as the Eagles beat Presbyterian 76-51 on Wednesday night.
Winthrop (5-2) led 16-2 with just over 14 minutes to go.
The Blue Hose (4-1) would cut the lead to six on Grant Herren jumper with 11:30 left, but the Eagles then went on a 13-3 run and would lead by at least seven points the rest of the way,
Winthrop shot a season best 58.3 percent (28-of-48) from the field, while Presbyterian shot 40 percent (18-of-45). The Blue Hose had 10 more turnovers and were outscored 28-12 in the paint.
Michael Jenkins scored 14 points, while Chris Gaynor added 13 points and five assists for the Eagles.
Travis Sligh led Presbyterian with 18 points and five rebounds, while Herren added 10 points.
The Blue Hose will move up to Division I next season and join Winthrop in the Big South Conference.
