DENVER (AP)—Jason Smith scored 24 points and had 9 rebounds Colorado State beat Denver 81-73 Wednesday night.
Tim Denson added 18 points and 2 rebounds for the Rams (4-2).
DaShawn Walker scored a career-high 30 points, including eight 3-pointers, and Tyler Bullock added 15 points for the Pioneers (1-6).
The lead changed 11 times during the game and the Pioneers led 46-38 at halftime. Denver led with 6:07 remaining in the game but the Rams pulled ahead for good after junior guard Tyler Smith hit a 3-pointer.
Jason Smith fouled out with 5:04 remaining in the game. The Rams scored six free throws in the game’s final 1:15.
Colorado State shot 52.7 percent from the field during the game while Denver shot 52 percent.
Denver will next face South Dakota State on Sunday.
