PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Eric Moore scored 21 points and hit 5-of-10 3-pointers to lead Buffalo past Temple 64-62 on Monday.
Yassin Idbihi added 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulls (5-2), who spoiled the home debut of Temple coach Fran Dunphy. Dionte Christmas led the Owls (0-2) with a career-high 23 points while Dustin Salisbery had 15 and Semaj Inge 10.
After Christmas tied the game 52-53 with 6:28 remaining, Buffalo went on a 9-0 run to take a 62-53 lead. Temple came right back with three consecutive baskets—two by Christmas and one by Salisbery—to close within 62-59 with 37.5 seconds left.
After two free throws by Greg Gamble pushed the lead to 64-59, Christmas was fouled on a 3-point attempt and converted all three shots, closing the gap to 64-62 with 16 seconds remaining. Temple then forced a turnover but Salisbery missed a 3-pointer as time expired.
The Owls struggled offensively, shooting 39 percent (22-of-57) from the field and connecting on just 12-of-24 shots from the free throw line. Although Temple led 32-31 at halftime, the Owls trailed by as many as six points in the first half and went more than nine minutes without a field goal.
