INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—A.J. Graves had 26 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead Butler to an 83-80 double-overtime victory over Kent State on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (7-0) shot just 24-of-68 (35 percent) from the floor but hit 31-of-39 free throws.
Haminn Quaintance led the Golden Flashes (4-2) with 20 points and shot 5-of-5 from the floor and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Kent State had 16 turnovers which Butler turned into 22 points.
The Bulldogs took their first lead on a free throw from Graves with 4:17 left in regulation. A layup by Butler’s Brian Ligon with seven seconds left sent the game into overtime.
With six seconds remaining in the first overtime, Graves hit a 3-pointer to tie the game and force double overtime.
Late in the second extra period, Graves made a layup to give Butler an 80-76 lead that forced Kent State to foul with 37 seconds remaining.
