Oklahoma State 86, Sam Houston State 67
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP)—Mario Boggan continued his early season dominance inside, scoring 21 points to lead Oklahoma State to an 86-67 win over Sam Houston State on Sunday afternoon.
Boggan, a senior forward, went 6 of 10 from the field and made all nine of his free-throw attempts for Oklahoma State (4-0), which posted its second win of the basketball season over a Southland Conference foe. The Cowboys beat Northwestern State on Wednesday.
Sam Houston State (1-2) also lost earlier this season to another Big 12 Conference team, Texas Tech.
Senior forward David Monds matched a career high for Oklahoma State with 17 points, including a 3-pointer late in the first half. Sophomore guard Terrel Harris made 4-of-6 3-point attempts and scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half for the Cowboys.
Oklahoma State struggled offensively and trailed for most of the first half, but a 3-pointer by Harris with 2:10 left ignited a 10-2 run and the Cowboys led 35-29 at halftime.
Oklahoma State maintained, then built on, its advantage in the second half. JamesOn Curry, quiet in the first half, was slammed to the ground on an intentional foul with 15:59 left, then reeled off 10 points in the next 2:20, putting the Cowboys ahead 55-34.
Oklahoma State held the Bearkats to 36.4-percent field-goal shooting and forced 23 turnovers.
Curry finished with 14 points, and Obi Muonelo, a freshman guard, reached double figures for the fourth straight game with 11 points.
Ryan Bright led the Bearkats with 20 points and Aaron Wade added 16.
Oklahoma State will host Southern on Tuesday night, capping a stretch in which the Cowboys will play four games—all at Gallagher-Iba Arena—in seven days.
