Mississippi 75, Cent. Arkansas 61
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—Clarence Sanders scored 17 points and Bam Doyne had 15 to lead Mississippi to a 75-61 victory over Central Arkansas Saturday in the Hispanic College Fund Classic at the Hartford Civic Center.
Ole Miss (4-0) raced out on a 20-8 run to start the second half, taking 53-40 lead after Sanders made one of two free throws with 12:46 seconds left. Central Arkansas (1-3)chipped away closing the gap to 55-53, when Durrell Nevels scored off an inside feed from Frederick Campbell with 6:27 left.
But that’s as close as Central Arkansas would get. Eniel Polynice made a 3-pointer, then followed with a steal and a basket to give Ole Miss a 60-53 lead with less than 6 minutes left.
Campbell scored 15 points and Nevels had 12 to lead Central Arkansas.
Central Arkansas led for the first 12 minutes of the game, but Ole Miss slowly chipped away tying the score at 20 after Doyne made two free throws with 8:01 left in the first half. A Justin Cerasoli basket with 2:08 left gave Ole Miss a 31-26 lead, but Central Arkansas continued to fight back.
Marcus Pillow hit a 3-pointer with less than 50 seconds left to cut Ole Miss’s lead to 33-31 at the half.
Central Arkansas was held to just 39 percent shooting from the floor, while Ole Miss shot 52 percent in the half. Doyne led Ole Miss with 13 points, while Campbell had nine for Central Arkansas in the first half.
