Hawaii 79, Coppin St. 67
HONOLULU (AP)—Matt Lojeski scored 23 points to lead four Rainbow Warriors in double figures as Hawaii cruised to a 79-67 victory over Coppin State in the first-ever meeting between the two teams Monday night.
Ahmet Gueye had a double-double for Hawaii (1-1) with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Riley Luettgerodt and Dominic Waters added 12 points apiece for the Rainbow Warriors, who never trailed in the game.
Tywain McKee led Coppin State (0-2) with 22 points. He was the only Eagle to score in double figures.
Midway through the first half, Hawaii used a five-minute, 18-4 run keyed by seven points from Lojeski and two 3-pointers by Waters to take a 28-13 lead with 7:19 remaining in the half. Hawaii led 36-23 at halftime.
Coppin State would fare no better in the second period.
After the Eagles closed to within 10 points, 52-42, with 12:05 to go, Hawaii went on a 13-0 run powered by six points from Gueye to open up its largest lead of the game, 65-44.
Hawaii outrebounded Coppin State 40-28 as the Eagles lost their 28th consecutive non-conference regular season game.
