Louisiana-Monroe 76, UC Riverside 64
AMES, Iowa (AP)—Lance Brasher scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Tony Hopper added 15 points as Lousiana-Monroe beat UC Riverside 76-64 Sunday for its second straight win.
Lousiana-Monroe (2-1) extended an eight-point halftime lead to as much as 62-44 following a 3-pointer by Brasher. UC-Riverside (1-2) went to the press and pulled within 64-54, but the Warhawks quickly went back up by 14 and cruised from there.
Lousiana-Monroe took the lead with a 17-4 run midway through the first half. Afam Nweke then pushed the Warhawks’ lead to 10, 27-17, with a layup underneath, and Brasher’s basket with a little over 2 minutes left in the first half gave Louisiana-Monroe a 14-point lead.
The Warhawks led 41-33 at the break.
Chris Johnson led UC Riverside with 16 points. Justin Bell chipped in with 14.
Lousiana-Monroe’s next game is Nov. 19 at No. 5 LSU, the first of four road games against SEC opponents over the next month.
