Butler 77, Tulane 37
NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Brandon Cone scored 18 points as Butler routed Tulane University 77-37 on Friday.
Tulane (0-1) was never in the game after the eight-minute mark of the first half. At that point, Butler raced to a 28-10 lead that would grow to 24 points by halftime and to 45 points with 7:10 left in the game.
Not only did Butler hold a huge advantage shooting the ball—53.6 percent from the field compared to just 33.3 percent for Tulane—but it also outrebounded the Wave, 38-24.
Butler’s A.J. Graves joined Cone in double figures, getting 13, while Mike Green and Marcus Nellems each had 10.
Tulane made just one of 10 3-point attempts. David Gomez’s seven points led Tulane’s scorers.
The Green Wave’s 37 points were its fewest since a 48-31 loss to LSU in 1953. Late last season, Tulane was beaten 105-65 by third-ranked Memphis.
