NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP)—Antoine Miller scored 20 points, his last coming on a free throw with 5 seconds left as Stephen F. Austin held off a late rally by McNeese State for a 72-70 victory Tuesday night in the first round of the Southland Conference tournament.
The fourth-seeded Lumberjacks (17-11) led by seven points with 12 seconds left before Ryan Price was fouled on a 3-point attempt. Price made all three free throws to get McNeese State (14-14) within 71-67.
Miller made one of his two free throws with 5 second left before Quentin Gonzalez hit a 3-pointer in the final second for the Cowboys.
Josh Alexander scored 15 points and Marcus Clark added 10 points and 10 assists for the Lumberjacks, who led 37-28 at halftime. Miller also had eight rebounds.
Fourth-seeded Stephen F. Austin heads to Hunstville, Texas, Thursday for a semifinal against second-seeded Sam Houston State, which beat Texas-Arlington 86-84 on Tuesday night.
