Bucknell 70, Army 47
LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP)—Charles Lee scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as Bucknell recovered from a sluggish start to defeat Army 70-47 on Saturday night.
Kevin Bettencourt added 13 points for Bucknell (23-4, 14-0 Patriot League) and John Griffin scored 12 points while Chris McNaughton added 11.
Matt Bell led Army (5-21, 1-13) with 16 points and Marshall Jackson added 10. Jarell Brown, the league’s third-leading scorer at 14.9 points per game, was held to four points.
The Bison, leading 25-18 at the half, spurted to an 11-2 run behind Bettencourt’s pair of 3-pointers to take a 36-20 advantage with 17:10 left in the game. They led by as many as 23 points the rest of the way and Army never got closer than 13.
The Black Knights, pestered all night by the tight man-to-man defense, shot just 15-of-41 (36.6 percent) and went more than 6 1/2 minutes of the first half with no points. Bucknell forced 17 turnovers and outrebounded Army 38-27.
In the first 20 minutes, the Bison used spurts of 10-2 and 9-0 to grab a 23-15 lead on Lee’s free throw with 1:59 left.
