Gardner-Webb 71, Lipscomb 66
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP)—T.J. McCullough scored 17 second-half points to lead Gardner-Webb back from a 22-point deficit as the Bulldogs beat Lipscomb 71-66 on Saturday.
Lipscomb’s James Poindexter had a chance to tie the game late with a 3-pointer, but couldn’t get off a shot and passed inside. Gardner-Webb’s Simon Conn then stole the ball with three seconds left, was fouled and converted a pair of free throws to seal the victory
Down 55-37 midway through the second half, Gardner-Webb (15-10, 12-6 Atlantic Sun Conference) went on a 15-0 run to get back into the game. Gardner-Webb’s Chris Gash, who had 17 points and 14 rebounds, gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the night at 67-66 with 23 seconds left.
McCullough finished with a career-high 22 points, and Conn had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Gardner-Webb.
Poindexter led Lipscomb (17-9, 13-5) with 22 points, and Brian Fisk added 17.
