MONROE, La. (AP)—Josh Alexander scored 18 points to help lead Stephen F. Austin to a 63-59 win over Louisiana-Monroe during a game Thursday night where the lead changed 15 times.
Keith Hardway added 16 points for the Lumberjacks (11-9, 4-6 Southland).
With 8:16 remaining, Louisiana-Monroe took its lead turn at holding the lead before Stephen F. Austin answered with a 16-5 run to pull ahead by a game-high nine points. The Lumberjacks capped the run with a four-point play by Josh Alexander to extend the lead to 61-52, with only 2:23 remaining in the game.
The Indians (9-13, 5-5) closed the deficit to two on an old-fashion 3-point play, but the Lumberjacks converted 2-of-4 free throws in the final 25 seconds to provide the final margin.
Gary Robinson led Louisiana-Monroe with 12 points, Tony Hooper added 11 and Adrian Harper had 10.
