Bucknell 74, American 57
LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP)—Chris McNaughton scored 16 points and Charles Lee added 15 as Bucknell became only the second team to win its first 10 Patriot League games, beating American 74-57 Wednesday night.
Bucknell (19-3, 10-0) won its 10th straight since a loss to Duke on Jan. 2. The Bison and the 1990-91 Fordham team won their first 10 Patriot League games. Fordham won its first 11 league games that season.
American (7-15, 3-6) was in contention early in the first half before Bucknell pulled away. McNaughton scored eight points, including six in a row, during a 14-1 run, and Bucknell led by as many as 17 points in the first half
The Eagles scored only two field goals in the final 9 minutes of the half and Bucknell led 40-26 at the break.
Bucknell extended its lead to 23 points with 5:38 to play when American was called for a foul and a technical foul. Kevin Bettencourt and Abe Badmus each hit the second of two free throws.
Bucknell shot 58 percent in the game, including 8-for-13 from 3-point range.
Bettencourt finished with 11 points and Jason Vegotsky added 10 in a reserve role for the Bison. Lee, McNaughton and Badmus each had six rebounds.
Derrick Mercer scored 13 for American.
