Hofstra 82, Towson 70
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Loren Stokes scored 23 of his 31 points in the first half and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Hofstra to an 82-70 win over Towson Thursday.
Carlos Rivera followed with 19 points, 17 in the second half, for the Pride (13-4, 6-3 Colonial), who held a 40-31 lead at halftime.
Gary Neal scored a game-high 36 points to lead the Tigers (9-10, 5-5). Lawrence Hamm added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Stokes hit two jump shots as Hofstra jumped off to a 9-2 lead at 15:20 of the first half. Neal then scored nine points to spark a 12-2 run that put Towson on top 14-11 at 12:03.
Hofstra used a 13-2 surge to gain a 38-25 advantage at 2:57 as Stokes scored six.
The Pride took its biggest lead, 59-43, on a three-point basket by Rivera at 12:50 of the second half. Towson used a 20-7 run to close to 66-63 at 5:07. Neal had 10 points and Velmar Coleman closed the burst with two free throws.
Hofstra then outscored the Tigers 9-0, as Rivera hit a 3-pointer and Antoine Agudio connected on two more, to go up 75-63.
