LORMAN, Miss. (AP)—Delvin Thompson had 22 points to snap Alcorn State’s four-game losing streak in a 77-74 win over Alabama A&M on Monday.
Thompson made two crucial free throws with nine seconds to play.
Almaad Jackson had 13 points and 19 rebounds for the Braves (4-13 overall, 4-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference). James Kendrick had 14 points and Clif Douglass added 10.
“We just needed a win tonight,” point guard Alleo Frazier. “It didn’t matter if it was Grambling or Jackson State or Southern or whoever. We just needed a win.”
The Braves had 18 assists and 27 field goals.
Obie Trotter had 30 points to lead Alabama A&M (5-8, 3-4 SWAC). Joe Martin had 14 points for the Bulldogs and Mickell Gladness contributed 10 rebounds.
Alcorn built an eight-point lead with 1:34 to play, and the Braves made their final three free throws to hold off a furious A&M rally.
Alcorn State outrebounded Alabama A&M 48-37.
