BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)—Tyrus Thomas scored 20 points and blocked four shots to lead LSU to a 75-58 victory against Tulane in a non-conference game Tuesday night.
Thomas, who also grabbed nine rebounds, was one of four Tigers to score in double figures. Darrel Mitchell, who missed 10 of his 14 field goal attempts, still finished with 13 points. Darnell Lazare came off the bench for LSU (8-4) and scored 12 while Glen Davis, who had a game-high 10 rebounds, added 10.
Two reserves were the leading scorers for Tulane (3-8). David Gomez equaled his career-high with 21 points, and Andrew Garcia scored 11.
Holding a 34-28 halftime lead, LSU extended its advantage early in the second half behind play by Thomas and Tasmin Mitchell. They scored all but two of the Tigers’ first 16 second-half points. Thomas accounted for 10 points, including a dunk that put LSU ahead 50-35 with 13:40 remaining in the game.
Tulane never trailed by fewer than 13 points for the rest of the game. It took the Green Wave more than 11 minutes to score their 10th point of the second half. The Tigers’ largest lead was 27 points at 68-41.
