Louisiana-Lafayette 76, Georgia St. 70
LAFAYETTE, La. (AP)—Michael Southhall’s 27 points and 11 rebounds led Louisiana-Lafayette to a 76-70 win over Georgia State on Monday night.
Georgia State (3-7) had gone on a 14-2 run to open a 59-48 lead with 8:12 to go, but then the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-7) rallied.
Dwayne Mitchell’s free throw pulled Louisiana-Lafayette even at 67 with 2:30 left but Malcolm Manier hit a 3-pointer—Georgia State’s 10th of the game—to give the Panthers their final lead at 70-67. A basket and free throw by Mitchell tied the game at 70.
Two free throws by Southhall gave Louisiana-Lafayette a 72-70 lead. Georgia State’s D’Andre McGrew’s drive down the lane missed and Louisiana-Lafayette got two more free throws from Maurice Barksdale with 14 seconds left to seal the win.
The Panthers were led by Malcolm Manier with 19 points including five 3-pointers. Herman Favors added 14 with four 3-pointers, while McGrew scored 12.
Ed Turner added 13 points for Louisiana-Lafayette and Mitchell scored 12 and grabbed 10 rebounds.
