Virginia Tech 77, James Madison 58
HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP)—Coleman Collins scored a career-high 32 points on 13-for-18 shooting and Virginia Tech took control early in a 77-58 victory at James Madison on Monday.
The Hokies (10-4) led 38-22 by halftime after shooting nearly 54 percent from the field, then did even better in the second half. They finished 30-for-51 from the field, nearly 59 percent, and led by at least 14 throughout the final 20 minutes.
James Madison (3-7) got 17 points from Juwann James and nine from Jomo Belfour. The Dukes shot just 28.6 percent despite grabbing 18 of their rebounds on the offensive end.
Deron Washington added 19 points, three assists and four steals for the Hokies, who forced 17 turnovers. Collins had six rebounds and four blocks in his 36 minutes, and Hokies point guard Jamon Gordon had 10 assists, seven points and seven rebounds.
