UAB 90, Oklahoma State 71
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Marvett McDonald scored a career-high 27 points and Wen Mukubu added 16 to lead UAB to a 90-71 victory over Oklahoma State on Wednesday night.
Mukubu took the first score with a dunk off the opening tip and UAB (7-3) never trailed. Five three-pointers by McDonald helped spur the Blazers to a 33-13 lead.
A three-pointer by JamesOn Curry helped Oklahoma State (8-4) cut the lead to 36-34 at halftime.
The Cowboys pulled within 10 points early in the second half, but scores from McDonald and Demario Eddins and a three-pointer from Carldell “Squeaky” Johnson sparked a 9-0 UAB run that put the game away.
Curry and Mario Boggan scored 16 points each to lead Oklahoma State and Torre Johnson added 15 points for the Cowboys.
Eddins and Paul Delaney each scored 12 points for UAB and Johnson had eight assists in leading a pressing Blazers defense that forced 24 Oklahoma State turnovers.
UAB had its biggest lead at 90-62 before the Cowboys closed the game with a 9-0 run.
