SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—Chaun Brooks shot a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point range to lift Drake over San Jose State 82-64 on Saturday.
Brooks, who had tried only four 3-pointers in the Bulldogs’ first eight games, didn’t attempt a single 2-pointer and missed two of his eight free throws in leading all scorers with 21 points.
Drake (6-3) jumped on the Spartans (4-6) early and led 50-27 at halftime.
The Bulldogs built up a 25-point advantage at 52-27 with 18:59 to go and held on from there.
The game marked the return of San Jose State’s leading scorer, Demetrius Brown, who had sat out the four previous games with a bacterial infection on his abdomen. Brown paced the Spartans with 19 points and missed only two of his 10 field-goal attempts.
