Arkansas 73, Texas St. 67
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP)—Steven Hill tied a school record with 10 blocked shots, and Arkansas held on to beat winless Texas State 73-67 on Tuesday night.
The Razorbacks (6-2) led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but stumbled letting the Bobcats (0-6) pull within four at 71-67 with 1:32 to play. Arkansas missed four of its final six free throws.
Arkansas’ Jonathon Modica hit a pair of free throws to set the final score. Hill tied a school record and set a career high with his 10 blocked shots. Hill also recorded a career high 9 rebounds. Ronnie Brewer led all scorers with 22 points, including three dunks—two on alley-oops from point guard Eric Ferguson in the second half.
Modica added 14 for the Razorbacks. Lance Burroughs led Texas State scorers with 13 points.
Midway through the second half, both Arkansas and Texas State traded buckets before the Bobcats made their final run.
Texas State went on a 12-4 run over the span of 3:45 late in the game to cut the game to 71-67, before time wore thin. Arkansas held a 37-29 lead at halftime despite shooting just over 41 percent from the floor in the first half.
The Razorbacks distanced themselves from Texas State with a 12-2 run late in the first half as Dontell Jefferson, Jonathon Modica and Eric Ferguson all hit from behind the arc.
Texas State held narrow leads four times in the first half, the latest coming from Jeremy Johnson with a 3-pointer for a 23-22 advantage with 4:15 remaining until halftime.
Prolific 3-point shooting in the first half kept the Bobcats alive. Texas State shot 6-of-11 from deep.
