TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Adam Boone scored 11 of his 28 points in overtime, and Minnesota defeated previously unbeaten Arizona State’s 85-79 Monday night.

Boone matched his career high, including a go-ahead 3-pointer for a 69-68 lead 1:08 into the extra period.

Arizona State’s Kevin Kruger sent the Sun Devils into their final lead— 70-69—with a baseline jumper at the 2:30 mark, but Boone sank two free throws eight seconds later, and Minnesota never trailed again.

Dan Coleman had a career-high 23 points for the Gophers (4-2) and Jamal Abu-Shamala scored 14. J’son Stamper had eight points and 13 rebounds, leading Minnesota to a 45-42 rebounding edge—its fifth consecutive time to outwork an opponent on the glass.

The Gophers needed that kind of edge after missing 18 of 49 free throws.

Kruger had a career-high 27 points, Antwi Atuahene scored 11 and Jeff Pendergraph and Allen Morill had 10 each for the Sun Devils (4-1), whose 4-0 start was their best in 11 years.

The Gophers appeared to have the game in hand when Abu-Shamala’s layup gave them a 53-40 lead with 8:43 left in the second half.

But Kruger scored 10 points during a 17-2 run, and Tyrone Jackson sent Arizona State to a 57-55 lead with two free throws with 3:47 to go.

The Gophers pulled away again, but Kruger banked in a 30-footer at the buzzer to tie the game at 66.

The Sun Devils held an early six-point lead, but Minnesota caught up at 12 on a jump hook by Spencer Tollackson with 11:50 left in the first half and went ahead, 15-14, on Brandon Smith’s three-point play 1:09 later.

That was the first of eight lead changes in the half, which ended with Arizona State leading 32-30 after an 18-footer by Bryson Krueger in the final minute.
