STILLWATER, Okla. (AP)—Torre Johnson scored 17 points and JamesOn Curry added 16 as Oklahoma State defeated Nevada-Las Vegas 80-62 Wednesday.
Curry, who struggled from the field early, hit a 3-pointer at the 6:07 mark in the first half to give the Cowboys (5-1) a 28-20 lead. He followed that with a fast-break lay-up and then floated a pass to Mario Boggan, who scored and was fouled.
Boggan converted the free throw to stretch the Cowboys’ margin to 36-26. Byron Eaton followed Boggan’s three-point play with one of his own, scoring a bucket inside and drawing a foul. His free throw gave the Cowboys its biggest lead of the half, 39-26.
Oklahoma State, which led 43-31 at halftime, continued to extend its lead early in the second half. Curry connected on back-to-back 3-point shots, stretching the Cowboys lead to 56-35 with 16:06 remaining.
Louis Amundson’s field goal later in the half trimmed the Cowboys’ deficit to 64-55, but they would come no closer.
UNLV (2-2) committed turnovers on each of its first three possessions. A pair of free throws by Amundson was the lone scoring for the Rebels until the 13:24 mark when Jason Petrimoulx hit a long-range jump shot, trimming the Cowboys early lead to 9-4.
Oklahoma State made 30-of-58 field goal attempts, while Nevada-Las Vegas made 23-of-41. The Rebels had 27 turnovers compared to 11 for the Cowboys.
Eaton scored 13 points for Oklahoma State and Boggan and David Monds each added 11. Amundson scored 25 and Petrimoulx scored 12 for Nevada Las-Vegas.
