Nebraska 59, Louisiana Tech 56
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—Jamel White hit a 3-pointer with 2:02 left to play to help Nebraska beat Louisiana Tech 59-56 in the John Thompson Foundation Basketball Challenge Sunday.
Nebraska (3-0) and Louisiana Tech (1-2) stayed close throughout the game. Both teams struggled to score and shot 36.5 percent from the field.
Marcus Walker broke a 40-40 tie with his jumper with 11:32 remaining, and Aleks Maric followed that with a three-point play to give Nebraska a 45-40 lead.
But Nebraska couldn’t stretch the lead beyond six. That was the margin before Louisiana Tech’s Trey McDowell warmed up and hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Bulldogs into a tie at 55.
White hit his three on Nebraska’s next possession, putting the Huskers up 58-55.
Tech’s Paul Millsap hit one of two free throws only to be matched by Nebraska’s Joe McCray, whose shot made the score 59-56 with 1:44 left.
Tech’s Harry Disy missed a short jumper and Nebraska wound down the 35-second shot clock on its next possession.
Marcus Walker heaved a desperation three at the buzzer that was batted back out to him. He was fouled with three seconds left, but Louisiana Tech fumbled the rebound out of bounds.
Aleks Maric led Nebraska with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Jason Dourisseau added 12 for the Huskers.
McDowell had 23 points, the only Bulldog who scored in double figures.
