Stephen F.Austin 82, Tulsa 72
TULSA, Okla. (AP)—Center Antuane Miller scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds while senior guard Marcus Clark scored 16 points to lead Stephen F. Austin to an 82-72 victory Saturday night, spoiling the debut of Hurricane coach Doug Wojcik.
Clark, one of two returning starters and an All-Southland Conference second-team pick last year, had eight rebounds, two assists and a steal while making just two turnovers.
Forward Anthony Paez slithered inside for 15 points for the Lumberjacks (1-0), who shot 49.1 percent and forced 17 turnovers while making just 10 of their own.
The Hurricane (0-1) was outrebounded 34-31 and was unable to get key stops defensively.
“You should never give up 82 points on your home court, you’re not going to win any games doing that,” Wojcik said.
Junior forward Charles Ramsdell led Tulsa with a career-high 17 points and nine rebounds. Forward Darold Crow had 15 points, center Anthony Price 13 and guard Brett McDade added 13.
Tulsa took its only lead of the second half on a 3-pointer by Deion James to make it 46-45 with 14:32 to play. The score was tied 48-48 moments later when Stephen F. Austin went on a 12-3 run to take control.
Tulsa played without starting point guard Rod Earls, who broke a foot in practice Friday night.
