BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)—Tasmin Mitchell scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead LSU to a 84-56 win over Southern Friday night.
Glen Davis and Tyrus Thomas added 18 points apiece and Davis also pulled down 10 rebounds for the Tigers (1-0). Darrel Mitchell finished the night with 13 points and dished out seven assists.
Chris Alexander led Southern (0-3) with 13 points and Deforre Riley-Smith added 12. Alvin Mott grabbed five rebounds.
LSU had 26 points off Southern’s 15 turnovers and scored 28 points off second chance plays.
LSU led from the beginning, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first 85 seconds before Southern quickly called a 30-second timeout. Tasmin Mitchell hit a jumper off a Darrel Mitchell assist, Davis hit a layup and then Darrel Mitchell connected on his first 3-pointer of the game. LSU would lead by double figures early, 18-8, at the 11:53 mark and led by as much as 18 points twice in the half before settling for a 15-point, 43-28, halftime lead.
LSU out rebounded the Jaguars, 55-23, with LSU getting 22 offensive rebounds.
