Detroit 61, Wright State 48

MILWAUKEE (AP)—Brandon Cotton scored 19 points and James Thues 11 to help Detroit defeat Wright State 61-48 in quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament Friday night.

Detroit (13-15) advances to the semifinal round Saturday night against Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Wright State (15-15) was led by DaShaun Wood with 15 points and Jaron Taylor with 10.

In the later quarterfinal Friday night, Illinois-Chicago was to play Loyola for the right to take on regular-season champion Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Milwaukee and Green Bay got byes into the semifinal round by finishing first and second in the regular season.

Wood tied the game 41-41 with a free throw with 7:37 remaining, but Tor Voris Baker scored with a putback off a missed free throw by Cotton with 7:32 to go to start a six-point run that gave the Titans a 47-41 lead. Ryvon Covile had the other two baskets in the run.

The Titans led 26-25 at halftime on Muhammad Abdur-Rahim’s basket with 1:12 left before intermission.

The score was tied three times in the first half.
