CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP)—Stetson Hairston scored 17 points to lead Southern Illinois to a 76-69 victory over Northern Iowa in a Missouri Valley Conference game Wednesday night.

Southern Illinois (23-6, 13-3) came into Wednesday’s game at the SIU Arena holding a one-game lead over Wichita State in the conference. The Salukis face the Shockers on Saturday.

Southern Illinois took a 40-25 lead into halftime before a home crowd of 6,712, then held on to win by a seven-point margin.

The Salukis mounted an even offensive attack, with four of their five starters scoring in double digits. Darren Brooks had 16, Jamaal Tatum scored 14 and Matt Shaw added 12, plus grabbed eight rebounds, for SIU.

Ben Jacobson led the Panthers (19-9, 9-7) in scoring with 18 points. Grant Stout added 16 and Eric Colman had 15 and eight rebounds for Northern Iowa.
