S. Illinois 65, Kent St. 54

KENT, Ohio (AP)—Jamaal Tatum scored 22 points and had an almost perfect shooting night in leading Southern Illinois to a 65-54 win over Kent State on Saturday.

Tatum hit 7-of-8 shots from the field, 4-of-5 3-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws, and added four assists and four rebounds for the Salukis (22-6). Matt Shaw and Darren Brooks each added 14 points.

Jay Youngblood and Scott Cutley had 12 points apiece for Kent State (16-10) and Marcus Crenshaw added 10 points.

Crenshaw’s 3-pointer with 1:09 remaining cut the Golden Flashes deficit to 60-54. But Stetson Hairston hit four free throws Tatum added another over the final 59 seconds while Kent State missed its last four shots from the field.

Brooks hit a 3-pointer to touch off a 12-2 first-half run that gave the Salukis the lead for good.
