S. Illinois 58, Drake 57
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP)—Joshua Warren drilled an 18-footer from the left baseline with 12.1 seconds left to lift Southern Illinois past Drake 58-57 Monday night.
Pete Eggers’ 16-foot desperation shot as time ran out came up short as the Bulldogs (8-13, 4-9 Missouri Valley) lost their 12th straight game to the visiting Salukis.
Darren Brooks had a game-high 17 points for Southern Illinois (18-6, 9-3). He went 7-12 from the field and connected on all three 3-pointers. Lamar Owen finished with 16 and grabbed eight rebounds.
Klayton Korver, Lonnie Randolph and reserve Nick Grant each scored 10 points for Drake. Aliou Keita finished with seven points and collected a game-high 10 rebounds.
Eggers gave Drake a 57-56 lead with 29.7 seconds left with a layup before Warren drilled his game-winning shot.
Despite going to the foul line 15 more times, Drake trailed at halftime 33-32.
The game was tied 10 times with 13 lead changes.
The Salukis connected on both their free throws while the Bulldogs went 12-of-17 from the foul line.
