WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP)—Matt Kiefer had 21 points and eight rebounds and Carl Landry scored 19 as Purdue snapped a seven-game losing streak, beating Michigan 84-55 in a Big Ten matchup Sunday afternoon.

Brandon McKnight had 18 points, and David Teague added 14 points and seven assists for the Boilermakers (5-13, 1-6 Big Ten), who avoided their worst start in the conference since the 1962-63 season.

Chris Hunter and Graham Brown each had 11 points, and Dion Harris scored eight for Michigan (12-9, 3-4), which lost its fourth consecutive game after winning six in a row.

The Wolverines, who started the Big Ten season 3-0, were playing their second straight game without starting point guard Daniel Horton, who was suspended from the team indefinitely after being charged with misdemeanor domestic violence.

The Boilermakers took advantage of the short-handed Wolverines, jumping out to an 8-2 lead after a McKnight steal and layup.

Michigan used a 6-0 run to pull within 15-14 midway through the first half. Wolverines sophomore Brent Petway highlighted the spurt with a powerful two-handed dunk on a fast break.

Purdue didn’t let Michigan get any closer. The Boilermakers closed out the half with a 17-5 run, capped by a Teague 3-pointer from NBA range in the closing seconds, giving Purdue a 42-26 lead.

Purdue began the second half the way it ended the first. Following a dunk by Michigan’s Courtney Sims to open the half, the Boilermakers went on a 15-3 run to blow the game open.

During an 11-0 stretch, Teague hit a 3-pointer, Kiefer and Landry each had three-point plays, and McKnight hit two free throws to extend the lead to 57-31 with 13:53 remaining.

The Wolverines went nearly six minutes without a basket before getting a Harris 3-pointer with less than 12 minutes left to cut the deficit to 57-34, but the game was already out of reach.
