Holy Cross 58, Lehigh 56
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP)—Pat Doherty scored 14 points and hit a pair of go-ahead free throws as Holy Cross withstood a late rally to escape with a 58-56 win over Lehigh on Sunday.
Kevin Hamilton added 17 points and Keith Simmons came off the bench with 14 of his own for the Crusaders (15-5, 6-1 Patriot League). Jose Olivero scored a game-high 24 points and made 5-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line to lead the Mountain Hawks.
After Doherty sank the go-ahead foul shots with 1:32 to go, Lehigh (10-10, 4-3) had a chance to tie, but Nate Lufkin blocked a shot by Mitch Gilfillan and Simmons stole the ensuing inbound pass as time expired.
Following a 27-26 first half, Holy Cross built a 16-point lead while holding Lehigh to just one field goal in the first 11 minutes of the second half. But the Mountain Hawks climbed back into the game with solid foul shooting, hitting 16-of-23 from the foul line in the half—including a pair by Olivero that tied the game at 54 with just under two minutes to go.
Neither team shot the ball well in the second half; the Crusaders went 7-of-22 from the floor while Lehigh was 6-of-18.
