Pacific 66, CS Northridge 62
LOS ANGELES (AP)—Christian Maraker had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Pacific over Cal State Northridge, 66-62, in a game featuring the top two teams in the Big West Conference standings.
Pacific (15-2, 10-0), which stretched its winning streak to 11 games and its conference winning streak to 23 dating back to last season, moved three games ahead of Northridge (9-9, 7-3) in the Big West.
The Matadors had won seven of their previous eight games coming in, but never led despite cutting what was a 17-point first-half lead to single digits for most of the second.
Davin White, who hit a 3-pointer with 22.3 seconds left to bring Northridge to within two, 64-62, missed two potentially game-tying 3-point attempts on the Matadors’ final possession.
Pacific’s Jasko Korajkic pulled down the rebound off White’s second miss, was fouled immediately with 1.2 seconds left, and then sunk the first of two free throws at the other end to seal the win.
Ian Boylan led Northridge with a game-high 17 points. His 3-pointer with 7:02 left capped an 11-2 run to bring the Matadors’ to within one, 55-54, but he made only one of four 3-point attempts the rest of the game.
Pacific shot 50 percent (23-for-46) to Northridge’s 35.6 (21 of 59).
