Wis.-Milwaukee 71, Wright State 66
MILWAUKEE (AP)—Ed McCants scored 14 of his 22 points in the final 4 1/2 minutes as Wisconsin-Milwaukee rallied from a late 11-point deficit to post a 71-66 victory over Wright State Monday night.
After winning its last two games by an average of 26.5 points, the Panthers trailed 60-49 with 5:28 remaining, but finished with a 22-6 flurry to win their fifth consecutive game.
Boo Davis had 14 points and Adrian Tigert added 13 for Milwaukee (12-4, 6-1 in the Horizon).
Drew Burleson had 17 points and freshman Everett Spencer had a career-high 15 for Wright State (8-9, 3-3).
Milwaukee scored 21 points off Wright State turnovers, and the Raiders missed four-of-six free throws in the final 4 minutes.
McCants hit a 3-pointer with 4:20 left, bringing Milwaukee within 60-56. He hit another 3-pointer to give the Panthers a 65-63 lead with 1:28 to go.
After Wright State’s DeShaun Wood missed the front end of a 1-and-1, Tigert hit a pair of free throws with 44 seconds to go, giving Milwaukee a 67-63 lead.
Wood made a free throw for Wright State, and McCants hit a pair of free throws to make it 69-64 with 32 seconds left.
Burleson scored with 15 seconds left and was fouled, but missed the free throw. McCants then scored to cap the scoring.
Wright State held Milwaukee to only three 3-pointers over a 13 minute stretch in the first half, allowing the Raiders to go on a 21-9 run and take a 27-24 lead on Everett Spencer’s 3-pointer with 3:48 left.
Despite not making a two-point basket or a free throw for more than 13 minutes, the Panthers closed the first half with an 8-2 streak to lead 32-29 at halftime.
