Marshall 74, High Point 73
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP)—Freshman Joe Miles hit a jumper with five seconds left to lift Marshall to a 74-73 win over High Point on Tuesday night.
Marshall (2-6) halted a five-game losing streak. The Thundering Herd were off to their worst start since going 0-6 in 1964-65.
Miles sparked a late Marshall rally with a 3-pointer and a reverse layin to give the Thundering Herd a 70-69 lead with two minutes to play. High Point (3-8) had led by as many as 11 midway through the second half.
Miles then delivered the final blow with a jumper from the foul line to secure the win.
Tre Whitted led the Thundering Herd with 16 points. Teammates Mark Patton and A.W. Hamilton added 12.
Zione White scored a season-high 22 points to lead High Point, while Jerry Echenique tied a career-high with 21 points and had 11 rebounds. Defending Big South Player of the Year Danny Gathings added 10 points.
High Point outscored Marshall 21-7 in the final seven minutes of the first half to lead 40-32 at halftime.
