COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP)—Freshman Dominique Kirk scored 18 points, including two late free throws to seal the win, as Texas A&M beat Alabama A&M 71-68 Saturday to give the Aggies their best start in 24 years.

A&M (6-0) led most of the way, but Alabama A&M (3-4) pulled to within 69-68 on Obie Trotter’s 3-pointer with 10 seconds left. Kirk then hit two free throws with 8.2 seconds left to put the game away.

Acie Law added 13 points for the Aggies. Antoine Wright, A&M’s leading scorer, had eight points in the final eight minutes after failing to score in the game’s first 32 minutes.

Trotter led Alabama A&M with 18 points and five assists, and Marcus Jones added 12 points.

The Aggies last won their first six games in the 1980-81 season.
