American 75, Towson 64
TOWSON, Md. (AP)—Jason Thomas had a career-high 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and American beat Towson 75-64 Wednesday night for its fourth consecutive victory.
Thomas hit 8-of-9 shots from the field, connected on 5-of-5 3-pointers and converted all five of his free throws for the Eagles (4-2).
Lawrence Hamm led the Tigers (2-6) with 20 points and nine rebounds. Winstonn Tubbs added 10 points for Towson, which has lost five straight games.
Patrick Okpwae added a career-high 16 points for American, which improved to 21-4 all-time against Towson with its first road victory in three tries this season.
Thomas had 11 first-half points, helping American to a 30-24 lead at halftime.
Jonathan Pease’s 3-pointer put Towson ahead 13-12 with 14:46 remaining in the first half, but the Eagles retaliated with an 11-1 run for a 23-14 lead. Okpwae had six points in the spurt, on a layup, a putback and a turnaround jumper.
Okpwae opened the second half by converting an alley-OOP feed from Linas Lekavicius, Thomas drained a pair of 3-pointers and Andre Ingram’s drive with 16:52 left put American up 42-32.
Five of the Tigers’ first six field goals in the second half were 3-pointers and Tubb’s trey with 13:44 remaining got Towson within 47-41.
But Okpwae’s one-handed baseline sparked a 12-0 run, with a 3 by Ingram capping the spree and giving American a 59-41 lead.
