Wright State 59, Northeastern 53
BOSTON (AP)—Drew Burleson scored a career-high 19 points and Wright State held Jose Juan Barea, who entered play as the nation’s leading scorer, to a season-low 12 points for a 59-53 win over Northeastern on Saturday night.
Barea, who came in averaging 28.2 points, had scored at least 24 in every game this season.
Zakee Boyd, who scored 16 points, buried two crucial 3-pointers late for Wright State (4-2). He broke a 51-51 tie with a 3-pointer with 4:16 left that put the Raiders ahead for good, and then pushed the lead to 57-53 with another 3-pointer with 1:26 left.
Northeastern (2-3) didn’t make a field goal in the final 5:51.
The teams were tied 32-32 at halftime, but Wright State took a 37-35 lead on a three-point play from Burleson with 18:43 left. The Raiders held the lead until Mark Washington’s putback with seven minutes left put the Huskies ahead 47-46.
Marcus Barnes led Northeastern with 13 points and Washington added 10 points. Zach Williams scored 13 points for Wright State.
