Moore lifts ASU to 1-point victory over Cal State-Northridge
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Steve Moore hit three free throws with 14 seconds left to lift Arizona State to a 67-66 victory over Cal State-Northridge on Saturday.
Northridge (1-5, 0-0) led 66-64 when Moore was fouled on a 3-point attempt. He converted all three free throws. Northridge had a last chance before a shot off of a rebound by Austin Waggener rimmed out just before the buzzer.
Ike Diogu led Arizona State (5-1, 0-0) with 25 points and 13 rebounds while Moore added 20. Ian Boylan led Northridge with 26 points and Davin White had 14.
Arizona State jumped out to a 16-6 lead. Northridge, though, closed the first half on a 26-9 run to lead 32-27 at halftime.
The lead changed hands six times down the stretch. A layup by Calvin Chitwood with 30 seconds left gave Northridge its last lead at 66-64 before Moore made his free throws.
Two big factors in the game were rebounding and free throws. Arizona State won the rebound battle 47-31 and shot 22 free throws compared to eight by Northridge.
