Boston College 87, Long Island U. 46
BOSTON (AP)—Craig Smith and Jermaine Watson scored 15 points each, helping Boston College to a 87-46 rout over Long Island University Tuesday night.
Sean Marshall added 14 points and Louis Hinnant 13 for the Eagles (4-0), who made the most of their height and talent advantage. In the opening half, BC made all but two of its field goals from inside the lane.
The Blackbirds (1-2) were led by Evan Meekins’ 11 points. They shot just 27.1 percent (16 of 59) for the game and managed only two baskets inside the paint in the opening 27 minutes.
The Eagles used a 15-3 run over a 4:49 span midway into the first half to break the game open.
BC, which never trailed, pulled to a 26-12 edge on Watson’s dunk with 8:22 left in the opening half and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
The Eagles led 46-21 at intermission.
In the second half, BC put the game well out of reach. The Eagles took a 57-25, on Smith’s 3-pointer with 14:20 left, and pushed the lead to 72-31 on Hinnant’s free throw with 8:55 to play.
BC forwards Sean Williams and Gordon Watt were both suspended for violating team rules.
