Nebraska 78, Texas Southern 58
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—Jason Dourisseau scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half as Nebraska opened up a double digit lead early and held off Texas Southern 78-58.
Nebraska (2-0) led by 13 at the half and took a 17 point lead on Alex Maric’s three-point play with 13:07 left, making the score 56-39.
Texas Southern’s Justin Wilson then scored nine points in a 12-2 spurt that cut the lead to 58-51 on his free-throw lane jumper with 8:23 remaining.
But Texas Southern (1-2) could get no closer. Nebraska went on a 12-3 run to put the game away, going up 70-54 on Joe McCray’s three-pointer with 3:44 left.
Nebraska opened up its first 10 point lead on Marcus Neal’s 3 pointer with 11:55 remaining in the first half, only to see Texas Southern (1-2) go on an 11-2 run to cut the lead to two.
Dourisseau’s three-point play with 7:23 left in the first started a 16-5 half ending run that left the Cornhuskers up 41-28.
Nebraska’s defense held the Tigers to just 33 percent shooting for the game. The Huskers also controlled the boards, outrebounding Texas Southern 50-33.
Joining Dourisseau in double figures for Nebraska were Neal with 12, McCray with 11 and John Turek with 10.
Wilson led the Tigers with 26 points. Sean Walker added 15 for Texas Southern.
